Soybean harvest in Argentina increased significantly in the 2024–2025 season

Soybean harvest in Argentina increased thanks to the expansion of acreage

For several consecutive years, Argentina’s agricultural sector struggled with unfavorable weather conditions. However, the 2024–2025 season was more successful for local producers. They were able to significantly increase the soybean harvest.
After periods of declining productivity, farmers decided not to rely solely on the weather. They expanded their acreage significantly, which helped them achieve a high yield. According to the relevant ministry, soybean production in the 2024–2025 season amounted to nearly 50 million tons. This figure is 3.5% higher than the previous season and the highest in six years. The expansion of land plots was the key factor in the increase in production. The area under cultivation grew by nearly 8%, reaching 17.8 million hectares.
Additionally, average yields increased. During the main agricultural season, yields averaged about 30.6 centners per hectare, exceeding the ten-year average. During the winter crop season, yields surpassed 25 centners per hectare, also the highest figure in a decade.
The main soybean-producing regions in Argentina are:
— Buenos Aires, where the crop occupies approximately 5.5 million hectares;
— Córdoba, where 4.5 million hectares are under soybean cultivation;
— Santa Fe, where soybeans are grown on 3.4 million hectares;
— Santiago del Estero which has 1.4 million hectares under cultivation.

Overview of crop exports

Argentina is a major exporter of beans and processed products. The country supplies its products to 67 countries worldwide. Soybean meal is its main export commodity.
Key buyers of Argentine products over the past five years include:
— China is the largest importer of Argentine soybeans, accounting for about 13% of total exports;
— Vietnam ranks second among buyers, purchasing approximately 9% of Argentine products;
— India is consistently among the top three largest customers, accounting for 7% of total exports.
In June 2025, soybean processing volumes in Argentina reached their highest level in eight months. Local enterprises processed more than 4 million tons in total, exceeding experts’ forecasts. This news positively impacted the market, allowing for an increase in product stocks. The estimated amount of soybean oil is 284,000 tons. Meal stocks amounted to 834,000 tons.
Processing volumes fell in July 2025, which is a typical seasonal trend. High stocks ensured meal exports of almost 8 million tons from July to September. Soybean oil sales fell slightly during this period. This is due to increased demand from biodiesel producers.
