India’s organic wheat market is developing
A new company entered the organic wheat market in India
The world market of organic wheat added another participant. As it became known from official sources, an Indian company GCMMF plans to grow grain of high quality. The producer produces dairy products under the Amul brand but decided to develop in a new direction.
The company says it wants to focus its efforts on the production of whole-grain wheat, using only organic fertilizers and technologies that will help preserve the maximum nutritional value of the grain. In the future, GCMMF is considering the option of growing organic pulses and rice. The company’s new direction is called Organic Atta. Its goal is to provide natural products that help people to maintain good health and follow the concept of a healthy lifestyle.
The brand’s organic wheat appeared in stores in India in June, and for now, the product is only available in Gujarat, but it will be available in other parts of the country in the future. Wheat flour is available in two pack sizes and can also be ordered online in Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune.
Flour production is done on modern equipment which allows automation of most of the processes. An important point for the company is the quality of products, so the company installed innovative control systems that exclude errors or violations of the technological process. It should be noted that the market for organic products in India is quite developed, so Organic Atta faced strong competitors, among them — ITC and Tata. However, the difficulties do not stop the company, which decided to actively develop the organic direction.
GCMMF plans to unite farmers who produce a variety of organic products, thereby making this segment more accessible to small and medium-sized businesses. Now it is extremely difficult for small farms to enter the market. The fact that all products here must be tested and have the appropriate certificate, which confirms that it meets the requirements for organic products. Such equipment has a high price, and farmers in the majority do not have the opportunity to purchase it.
In this case, the company will take care of all the necessary inspections and testing, allowing producers to concentrate their efforts on growing natural products. For this purpose, GCMMF is building special testing centers in five different regions of the country. One of these is already in operation at the company’s dairy plant. Thanks to modern equipment, the costs of testing products will be significantly reduced, making it easier for farmers to enter the market.
In addition to the production of dairy products and organic wheat, the company is considering the option of producing organic fertilizers, which will not harm plants and soil.
